There are four races available in wc3tft namely the Humans, the Orcs, the Night Elves, and the Undead from which you can choose one to play as.
These days I mostly play as the Human race, but I've played the other races before as well. Since this is an RTS game, first you have to gather resources - gold and wood - in order to construct buildings that produce units. Basically, units are the "soldiers" you use to battle your opponents.
When you start a game as the Humans you're initially given 5 resource gathering units called "peasants" that can gather gold or wood, and construct buildings. No matter which race you choose to play as, you're given 5 resource-gathering/builder units in the beginning.
Now, let me get into something called a "build order". A "build order" is exactly what it sounds like... it's the order in which you assign gathering/building tasks to your "peasants". For now, I'll concentrate on the initial Human build order. Let me just say that this is the build order that I use, but there are many other ways of starting off.
(1a.) Immediately send all initial 5 peasants to the gold mine until gold reaches 455.
Note: The 5 peasants should be mining gold already before the first trained peasant
comes out of the Town Hall.

2. Take 3 peasants that are mining gold away from the gold mine.
One peasant should build an Altar, one should build a Barracks, and the third one
should build a Farm.

should build a Farm.
3. When the 3 peasants are done making these buildings send the two that were
building the Farm and Barracks to the nearby trees to gather lumber.
4. The peasant that built the Altar should next build another farm. This peasant will be
used solely for building from this point on.
(4a.) Train a Hero at the Altar.
(4b.) Build three more Farms.
5. Meanwhile, train 2 more peasants at the Town Hall and send them to the gold mine.
6. At this point, you should have 5 peasants mining gold and 2 gathering lumber.
7. Train 3 more peasants and send them to the trees to gather lumber.
8. At the completed Barracks train 3 Footmen.
9. Take the peasant from step 4 and build an Arcane Vault.
(9a.) After completing build, make the peasant build more farms.
10. Take one peasant away from gathering lumber and build a Scout Tower.
11. Use the peasant from step 10 (after Scout Tower completion) and build a Lumber Mill
(near trees).
12. Use the peasant from step 11 (after Lumber Mill completion) and build a Blacksmith.
(13a.) After completing build, make the peasant gather lumber.
13. Upgrade your Town Hall.
Here, I've listed just the initial build order, and didn't really get into what you should do with the Hero or the Footmen once they've been produced. I will try to get to those in later posts.
