First Noob Replay Cast
Here's the first ever replay cast of one of the Battle.net games that I played a couple of weeks back. Forgive the lackluster commentary...this is my very first try at doing this commentary thing. When I watched this myself after recording it I really didn't like the way I cast the replay.
Anyways, I'll try to put more replays up, and I hope to God they'll be better than this.

Moon's Back?
In my last post, I said that Moon has moved on to Starcraft 2, but it seems like he hasn't forgotten about Warcraft 3. This is a video of a semifinal match between Moon(Night Elf) and YuRiFoCuS(Orc) for the opportunity to represent their country in the World Cyber Games (WCG) 2011. Hey, who said Warcraft 3 was dead?! It's alive and kicking, hooya!
The video commentary is in Korean... no English subs :(
But, I thought the video was enjoyable nonetheless. The voice of the male commentator was kinda annoying though.

ToD(Human) vs. Moon(Night Elf) WCG 2007 Grand Final
Here's a video of a match played between ToD(Human) and Moon(Night Elf) in the WCG 2007 Grand Final. I think, at the time, both players were two of the best pro Warcraft 3 players in the world. Dang, I wish I could play 1/10 as good as these guys... Anyways, these guys were awesome. Moon has moved on to Starcraft 2, but I think ToD had retired from the pro game scene. BTW, the actual match starts at 8:08 in the video... Enjoy!
The Tech Tree - Humans
A so-called "Tech Tree" is a requirements map for buildings and units. Essentially, certain buildings and units need specific types of buildings completed before they become available for build. Here's a useful picture of the Human tech tree.
As you can see, the above picture only shows the requirements for buildings, and it does not show the requirements for units. So, I'll list the requirements for units below.
==================================================================
Units | Requirements
==================================================================
1. Peasant | Town Hall
2. Footman | Barracks
3. Rifleman | Barracks, Blacksmith
4. Knight | Lumber Mill, Blacksmith, Castle
5. Spellbreaker | Arcane Vault, Arcane Sanctum, Keep
6. Priest | Keep, Arcane Sanctum
7. Sorceress | Keep, Arcane Sanctum
8. Dragonhawk Rider | Arcane Vault, Keep
9. Gryphon Rider | Lumber Mill, Castle
10. Mortar Team | Keep, Blacksmith, Workshop
11. Flying Machine | Keep, Blacksmith, Workshop
12. Siege Engine | Castle, Blacksmith

The Basics - Humans
Now for the basics of the game...
There are four races available in wc3tft namely the Humans, the Orcs, the Night Elves, and the Undead from which you can choose one to play as.
These days I mostly play as the Human race, but I've played the other races before as well. Since this is an RTS game, first you have to gather resources - gold and wood - in order to construct buildings that produce units. Basically, units are the "soldiers" you use to battle your opponents.
When you start a game as the Humans you're initially given 5 resource gathering units called "peasants" that can gather gold or wood, and construct buildings. No matter which race you choose to play as, you're given 5 resource-gathering/builder units in the beginning.
Now, let me get into something called a "build order". A "build order" is exactly what it sounds like... it's the order in which you assign gathering/building tasks to your "peasants". For now, I'll concentrate on the initial Human build order. Let me just say that this is the build order that I use, but there are many other ways of starting off.
1. Train a peasant at the Town Hall. When he comes out send him to the gold mine.
3. When the 3 peasants are done making these buildings send the two that were
building the Farm and Barracks to the nearby trees to gather lumber.
4. The peasant that built the Altar should next build another farm. This peasant will be
used solely for building from this point on.
(4a.) Train a Hero at the Altar.
(4b.) Build three more Farms.
5. Meanwhile, train 2 more peasants at the Town Hall and send them to the gold mine.
6. At this point, you should have 5 peasants mining gold and 2 gathering lumber.
7. Train 3 more peasants and send them to the trees to gather lumber.
8. At the completed Barracks train 3 Footmen.
9. Take the peasant from step 4 and build an Arcane Vault.
(9a.) After completing build, make the peasant build more farms.
10. Take one peasant away from gathering lumber and build a Scout Tower.
11. Use the peasant from step 10 (after Scout Tower completion) and build a Lumber Mill
(near trees).
12. Use the peasant from step 11 (after Lumber Mill completion) and build a Blacksmith.
(13a.) After completing build, make the peasant gather lumber.
13. Upgrade your Town Hall.
Here, I've listed just the initial build order, and didn't really get into what you should do with the Hero or the Footmen once they've been produced. I will try to get to those in later posts.

Greetings!
Hello World!
So, this is a blog for the RTS (real-time strategy) game Warcraft 3, or more specifically "The Frozen Throne" expansion pack which was published by Blizzard in July of 2003. Warcraft 3 is considered by many to be one of the best RTS games of all time. You may be asking, "Why make a blog about a game that came out 8 years ago when there are many other newer games available?" Well, it's because I still play Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne and still enjoy it tremendously.
There are newer RTS games like Starcraft 2,which is also published by Blizzard, but I prefer playing Warcraft 3 instead for a number of personal reasons. For one thing, Warcraft 3 has a "hero" character system which is lacking in many other RTS games. The addition of this system allows for much deeper play mechanics - the "hero" plays a vital role in-game as you battle the computer AI or other human players online through Battlenet. Another system that is lacking in most other RTS games is the special "item" system. These special items are obtainable by killing monster (creeps) NPCs at specific locations throughout the map or by purchasing them at item shops. And, last but not least, the "hero" characters are able to level up and gain new abilities or strengthen existing ones.
So, that's Warcraft3 The Frozen Throne aka wc3tft in a nutshell. I will try to go into some of the specifics of the game in later posts, but for now this should give you a rough idea of the game. Ah, one more thing before I end this post, I am by no means an "expert" at wc3tft, but I just love playing the game. There have been times when I had forgotten about the game and just left it sitting on my bookshelf. But, when I do come back to it, it's always been a ton of fun.
